Buy to collect or buy to own, that is the question weather it is better to collect with resale in mind or to buy to own and in turn your purchases in time become your collection that is the question. I buy watches to wear, to own. I have never purchased a watch with long term benefit in mind. I have always tried to keep my watch purchases at what is considered to be a moderate price range of $2000. There are some very nice time pieces available at that price range. The economy has taken a toll on all industries but more importantly the watch consumer has been hit hard because the first thing to go in a down market is the eccentricities. Watches no matter the price fall into the eccentricity category
But still the hard core watch geek wants to continue to fine tune their collection. In an effort to fine tune my watch inventory I have released pieces I wish I had kept. (Longines Master Diver and Universal Genève 24 hour dial) I am even entertaining the thought of purchasing a new Master Diver, a simple yet elegant watch because I miss it so much. The question which confronts me now is which watch do I move (sell) to make room for the Master Diver. I’ll put it up for nomination three pieces; choose one of the three. Here are your choices A. Oris Titan Titanium Chronograph Diver B. Tag Heuer Aqua Racer Automatic and C. Armond Nicolet Moon phase Chronograph Automatic. The highest vote getter is out the door; let me know
Moving time pieces. I have never sold anything on eBay. As a watch geek I have never purchased high end off of eBay. Truth is told buying more so then selling on eBay concerns me because of the possibility of counterfeit watches. I don’t get a good feel as to trust the sellers or not. I have not had a bad experience to date however I have been very conservative which regard to what I have bought. I would even like to sell my pieces privately I just don’t know how to best go about it. EBay offers a large audience but I don’t know if the watch would be appreciated buy the purchaser. I probably shouldn’t care about the new owner so long as they pay. Would I make more money by selling a watch to an on line reseller or directly to a buyer?
